Sophie Gibson, a hairstylist at the award-winning Hooker & Young salon in Newcastle, is leading a colourful comeback for an industry that has faced a challenging year, after being named Commercial Colour Genius in the Colour World Genius Awards 2020.
Recognised in these awards for her outstanding skill, colouring technique and creativity, Sophie secured the top spot at a virtual awards ceremony on the 6th September 2020.
Adding to her growing number of professional accolades, Sophie is fast becoming recognised as one of the most outstanding hair colourists in the country. In 2019, she was crowned British Colour Technician of the Year at the coveted British Hairdressing Awards, alongside fellow Hooker & Young stylist Jonathon Turner.
Sophie said: “I feel very honoured to have won this award. It’s been a strange year, but I’m just thrilled to be back doing what I love and sharing my work with the wonderful hairdressing community. I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from the Hooker & Young team who are the absolute best cheerleaders!”
Though each award win is special, it is something that Sophie has become accustomed to, working at one of the most decorated salons in the city.
With four salons located across Newcastle and Teesside (Gosforth, Jesmond, Ponteland and Wynyard), Hooker & Young has achieved numerous business award wins, both locally and nationally. Owners Gary Hooker and Michael Young are also part of an elite group of hairdressers to be shortlisted for British Hairdresser of the Year, recently securing their 13th consecutive nomination.
