Get ready for an extraordinary musical bus tour, dedicated to celebrating the very songs that parents once loathed!

Welcome to the “Turn That Racket Down!” tour, an exclusive event happening on Sunday, August 13th.

We kindly request passengers with a particular sensitivity to wear earplugs for a more enjoyable experience.

Community radio station, Radio Northumberland and TyneIdols are teaming up for the one-off tour which will include songs and northeast locations in North Tyneside and Newcastle examining the teenage rebels of our youth. From teddy boys to mods and punk to Sam Fender, the tour promises to bring back memories and the odd smile too.

Although the route is a closely guarded secret, the bus will be on the road for three hours and will stop for refreshments too. Passengers will embark the iconic 1980’s yellow double-decker bus at 3pm outside The Exchange in North Shields and return there at 6pm for an 80’s set by The Nutopians. The bus has a state-of-the-art sound system and will play a selection of classic songs that relate to the stories being told.

Organised by Radio Northumberland’s New Wave With Newman team, the tour will entertain and surprise passengers with tales of the songs and stars all with a northeast connection.

“We’ve found out some amazing facts about music in the area including the site of a shop where a world-famous band popped in for their groceries and Sam Fender also has a number of mentions too.”

“Although it has a serious side to it, the tour is very much tongue in cheek and will appeal to anyone who wants a good day out and enjoys listening to a wide range of musical tastes. We’ll also have on-board one or two special guests who have some great tales to tell,”

Keith Newman presenter of the show
