A well-known North East venue is going the extra Three Mile to light up Tyneside this Christmas.
Three Mile Inn, at Gosforth, Newcastle, has undergone a £7.5m transformation by owner Malhotra Group plc to create a state-of-the-art hotel, bar and restaurant.
And, while its opening has been pushed back due to lockdown, the Group has spared no expense in bringing some festive cheer.
Because the company it has hired to dress the Three Mile for Christmas counts Hollywood big hitters Steven Spielberg and Mariah Carey among its clients.
A team from Liverpool-based The Christmas Decorators, which has also decorated royal residences Highgrove and Clarence House, has been drafted in to dress both interior and exterior of the site.
The famous pillared portico is illuminated by three, real fir trees, bedecked with lights.
While a spectacular 15ft high, illuminated aluminium stag is positioned on the terrace at the front of the building, which has been a haven for travellers along the Great North Road for almost a century.
Business development manager, Fabian Pritchard, said the Group was determined to press ahead with its decorations this year, “because, now more than ever, we need a little Christmas sparkle.
“Three Mile is a landmark building – not just for local residents but for drivers heading in and out of the city,” he said.
“We hope that these stunning decorations will cheer everyone up and really highlight what a lovely building this is.”
Ged Comerford, director of The Christmas Decorators, said he was “delighted” to work with Malhotra Group plc.
“It is a large and very successful conglomerate,” he said, “and I very much hope this is the start of an enduring working relationship.”
Three Mile, which incorporates the 64-bedroom Great North Hotel, the Pizza Dough Co restaurant and Great North Bakery & Coffee Co coffee shop is taking bookings for Christmas and beyond.
“We do not know yet which tier we will be in once lockdown ends in December,” said Fabian, “but we have plans in place to ensure we can operate – and remain fully Covid compliant – within whatever restrictions are in force.”
