Newcastle’s latest bar and restaurant is spicing up the bank holiday weekend with a festive celebration of Mexican culture.

In Mexico, May 5th is celebrated as Cinco de Mayo, commemorating the 1862 victory of the Mexicans over the second French Empire.

And now Motel Mexicana at Mosley Street is hosting a three-day long Cinco De Mayo festival which begins today (Fri 3 May) and goes right through to Sunday.

One of the many attractions on offer is a bottomless brunch on both Saturday and Sunday as well as a two-for-one cocktail offer from noon until 5pm both days.

The bottomless brunches – which are almost sold out – cost £39 per person and run from 1pm to 3pm and 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

During that period visitors can choose up to four tacos – from slow-cooked beef with chilli and cheddar to chicken with refried beans, chipotle salsa and Mexican slaw to vegetarian versions such as mushrooms with cheese and pulled jackfruit.

Sharing bowls of fries or tortilla chips are also included as are bottomless drinks such as house lager El Chico, frozen Margarita cocktails, Aperol Spritz, Sangria, fizz and Tequila punch.

A second option – El Presidente – is priced at £49 per person and includes extras such as a dessert course of churros plus any classic cocktails from the cocktails list and any premium draft beer.

There are also plenty of other ways to celebrate at the lively bar across the weekend, which will also have a packed programme of live music and entertainment.

Since it opened just a few weeks ago, Motel Mexicana has already become a go-to venue in the city, with a whole host of events including its highly popular Taco Tuesdays, where tacos are available at just £2.50p each.

The bar also has an upper level which can be booked and is also now available for private parties.
