Over 200 artists in the running to win the title

Public vote is now open for art lovers to decide the finalists

Winners from three age categories will be announced

Promising artists across Newcastle are appealing for public votes to be in with a chance of being crowned the North East Artist of the Year 2021.

Leading build-to-rent developers Placefirst invited artists of all ages and backgrounds in the North East to submit their favourite piece of artwork to be in with a chance of winning the prestigious accolade across three age categories. Winners will also have the opportunity for their artwork to be on show at its new Hetton-le-Hole development.

Over 200 budding artists entered their artistic creations in the hope of winning. The voting period has now opened, for viewers to choose their favourite from the online gallery until 11:59PM on the 25th April 2021.

Once the voting period ends, 20 entries for each category will go before an expert judging panel to determine a top 10 shortlist and the overall winner of three age groups – Primary School (age 5-10), Secondary School (age 11-15) and over 16’s. Entries will be judged on a variety of factors including artistic flair, originality and use of materials or colours.

In addition to the accolade, the winners across the three age categories will scoop up to £100 in art vouchers and have their artwork showcased at the brand-new Scholars View show home in Hetton-le-Hole later in the year, with the hope of inviting locals to view the artwork, social distancing restrictions permitting.

David Mawson, Chief Executive at Placefirst commented: “We have been amazed by the volume and quality of entries for our artist awards across the North East and would encourage everyone across Newcastle to visit our online gallery, to vote for their favourite.

“The talent across the different categories is truly fantastic to see and shows that a lot of hard work has gone into the creative pieces – it’s clear the past year has inspired many to take up art or dust off their old sketchbooks. We are proud to be championing local artists of all ages and look forward to showcasing the winner’s artwork in our Hetton-le-Hole development.”

To vote for your favourite artwork, please visit https://placefirst.co.uk/north-east-artist-of-the-year-2021/ before 11:59 PM on 25th April 2021, and the winner will be announced at the end of April 2021.
