Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes North East, is supporting Nunthorpe Primary Academy as the pupils return to the classroom with a £100 book voucher donation.

In support of the local school welcoming back its pupils as lockdown restrictions begin to ease, Barratt Homes North East has partnered with Nunthorpe Primary Academy, which is close to its Grey Towers Village development, to celebrate the return to education and highlight the importance of literacy amongst the children with a £100 book voucher donation.

As part of the school’s belated World Book Day celebrations, students at Nunthorpe Primary Academy were encouraged to come dressed in their favourite pyjamas as they enjoyed the reading of popular bedtime storybooks, complete with hot chocolates and snacks, providing students with the complete snug experience.

Evidence highlights how increased literacy can positively impact mental wellbeing in children, with those who are the most engaged with literacy being three times more likely to have higher levels of mental wellbeing, than children who are the least engaged.

Gill Hurst, Sales Manager of Barratt Homes Grey Towers Village, said: “We are always looking for new ways to engage with the communities in which we build, so we are delighted to be supporting Nunthorpe Primary Academy as the children return to the classroom. Literacy skills are hugely important to children, both for their education and their mental wellbeing, and we’re happy that we have been able to make a difference.”

Alexa O’Gara, Head Teacher at Nunthorpe Primary Academy, commented: “We are truly grateful for this donation from Barratt Homes and it will make a big difference to the school’s resources, especially as we have welcomed our pupils back once again! This gesture is appreciated by all of us here and we look forward to receiving some new reading materials for the children to enjoy.”
