After their successful presentation of Sheku Kanneh-Mason in Ouseburn last December, through the noise has exciting news for Newcastle as they announce a series of shows scheduled for later this year.

The newly revealed lineup for this autumn includes renowned musicians such as Fatma Said, Manchester Collective, Abel Selaocoe & The Bantu Ensemble, Alexandra Whittingham, Misha Mullov-Abbado, Thibaut Garcia, Lodestar Trio, Junyan Chen, Braimah Kanneh-Mason, and Jeneba Kanneh-Mason. Adding to the anticipation, some of the upcoming performances will take place at new venues, namely Boiler Shop and Star and Shadow Cinema.

In October, Through the Noise will collaborate with Manchester Collective, bringing an exciting fusion of Bach, Steve Reich, and Julia Wolfe to the newly refurbished gig room of the community-run and volunteer-led Star and Shadow Cinema.

Then, in November, they will present their largest show across the UK, featuring the groundbreaking South-African cellist and singer, Abel Selaocoe, accompanied by an exceptional ensemble including Dudu Kouate, Fred Thomas, and Shunya. This remarkable event will mark the first-ever classical concert at Boiler Shop (formerly known as Stephenson Works). Just before Christmas, Star and Shadow Cinema will host the final noisenight of the year, featuring the internationally acclaimed classical guitar virtuoso, Alexandra Whittingham.

This marks a significant milestone for through the noise, an organization that began less than two years ago in grassroots venues throughout London. Building upon the success of their sold-out tour last year with Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Harry Baker, through the noise is now expanding its reach to various cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Newcastle, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Brighton, and London. Between October and December, through the noise will embark on five projects, taking their captivating performances on tour throughout the UK. It is estimated that, by the end of the year, over 25,000 people will have had the opportunity to attend a noisenight, driven by the enthusiastic demand from their young fanbase.

The noisenights platform has gained recognition for its focus on showcasing international classical musicians in local venues across the country, all made possible through a unique crowdfunding model. This approach allows concert plans to be presented to local communities, seeking their support in exchange for tickets. Each event is confirmed once it reaches its crowdfunding target. By tapping into the existing audiences of thriving gig venues throughout the UK, noisenights aim to reach individuals who might otherwise miss out on experiencing live performances by world-class classical musicians. Impressively, 42 out of the 44 noisenight sets have sold out, highlighting the overwhelming success and popularity of these events.

“Today is an exciting turning point for us: after two years of steadily growing demand for our grassroots classical gigs in London and our first sold-out tours, we’ve decided to take the plunge and bring regular noisenights to audiences from Brighton to Edinburgh via Newcastle. We’re so grateful for the committed support of our community of classical fans, who continue to allow us to take international names to community venues around the country, and we can’t wait to present this awe-inspiring line up of musicians. Every single performer we’re hosting has the rare power to move and inspire people, and I can’t wait to give Newcastle audiences the chance to experience them up close”

“This season Manchester Collective are breaking all kinds of new ground, and will see our very first collaboration with the fantastic team at through the noise. Their shows have brought brilliant, bolshy, virtuosic live music to new audiences across the country, and we can’t wait to present three special performances of LAD together. Bring the noise!”
