On Saturday the 8th June, Nashville rock outfit Lola Montez took to the stage at The Three Tuns in Gateshead. It’s safe to say that the entertainment was kept to an incredibly high standard during the evening throughout a long set list of around twenty songs.

Before the gig began I managed to catch up with the band to find out that this was their first time in the UK as a band. Lead singer and frontwoman Inga Rudin made it clear that their music is a heavy fusion of many different styles and influences ranging from “New Wave, Dance, Rock and Alternative“ and this was all very apparent across their set. Each band member retains a different taste in music which they all bring together to create a new sound and band consisting of: Inga, guitarist Blake Scorpino, drummer Kurt Pietro and recently recruited Finnish bassist Pasi who joined them for their UK tour.

The set kicked off with “Swirld” from their newly released album “Dissonant Dreams” (released 3rd June 2019) instantly coming in with their heavy guitar, ferocious basslines and Inga’s distinct vocal style. Proceeding through the twenty song setlist which included the likes of Monster, Cyanide and Can you feel me?, the band captivated the crowd both on and off stage with their individual style, mannerisms and entrancing moves. “Save a prayer” a hit by the 1982 new wave renegades Duran Duran was revamped Lola Montez style and they delivered the goods to extraordinary effect. The band then continued their set performing “Strange Things” from their debut album “Glean Deluxe” amongst other tracks before taking the level down a notch to deliver the sultry “Baby It’s You”. The set and night was rounded off with a rousing rendition of “White rabbit” which was made famous by Grace Slick and the 1967 psychedelic rockers Jefferson Airplane, albeit executed with a Lola Montez twist.

All in all a great gig in a warm and welcoming atmosphere at The Three Tuns in Gateshead and a band definitely not to miss next time they are in your area.

Be sure to check out their newly released album “Dissonant Dreams” which is available now on all digital platforms, you won’t be disappointed.
