Genee, a growing North East environmental consultancy, is expanding as demand grows for environmental accreditation regionally and nationally.

Genee delivers Investors in the Environment (iiE) throughout the North East, a nationally recognised environmental accreditation programme designed to help organisations identify, measure and reduce their impact on the environment, and save time and money in the process.

Working with clients from all sectors, genee helps businesses, NGO’s and public sector clients of any size to implement operational changes within their organisation to reduce their environmental impact and their carbon footprints. Genee works with organisations at all stages of their environmental journey, from those starting from scratch to those with a fully developed environmental management system.

From 2022 to 2023, genee are looking forward to working with the Going Green Together project in partnership with VONNE and SmartCarbon, to establish environmental management within the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE). The Going Green Together project has received funding from the National Lottery Fund, which enables the scheme to take on up to 110 organisations across the North East and Cumbria. Throughout the project, each organisation will be taken through the iiE accreditation scheme by genee to embed sustainability within their organisational model.

As a response to this increase in demand in the region for guidance on embedding environmental management systems, genee has hired ‘Sustainability Coordinator’ Ellen Holmes, a masters graduate with numerous years’ experience in customer service and the VSCE Sector. Ellen has a portfolio of work including Executive Director of the European Division of The Organisation for World Peace and Campaigns Project Worker for Food Newcastle and BIND.

Ellen said “I’m looking forward to working with genee, they have a vision for the North East which is inspiring and many years of knowledge behind them. I’m excited to see the difference working with genee will make for organisations all over the region in their sustainability journey.”

Managing Director Jo Holmes commented, “we are really pleased to have recruited Ellen, who will help grow the business and will be a support to the voluntary sector in their sustainability journey through Going Green Together. Investors in the Environment is growing rapidly nationally, as it’s such an effective tool to develop and embed sustainability throughout any organisation. Organisations often don’t know where to start, and we give them a clear pathway, loads of helpful training and templates they can use to make the whole process easy to implement and sustain”
