Staff from Bellway have raised over £3 million for the company’s charity partner Cancer Research UK – a cause Bellway have partnered with since 2016.

I am proud of our employees at Bellway, and the effort, energy and emotion they have invested in raising money for Cancer Research UK over the past few years.

“We hope that the impact of our fundraising has helped drive the positive work the charity does. We are encouraged to do even more as we look to take the total we’ve raised to £4 million by the end of next year.

“As part of our holistic sustainability programme, Better with Bellway, we remain dedicated to charitable engagement as a business, and want to continue to support the communities in which we operate.”

Jason Honeyman, Chief Executive at Bellway

The money raised will fund pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer – such as the HUNTER study.

“Immunotherapy treatments are starting to transform the way we treat cancers but, in liver cancer, early results suggest that these treatments only work in a small number of patients.

“Our team think there’s potential for immunotherapy to treat more patients with liver cancer, but we need to deepen our understanding of the ways the cancer switches off the immune system.

“Money raised for Cancer Research UK helps to fund research where there is hope of offering treatments that could add months, or even years, of life for patients with advanced disease. We’re incredibly grateful for the investment we’ve received and every penny raised for Cancer Research UK by its supporters creates more opportunities to carry life-saving research forward.”

Professor Reeves, lead investigator of the HUNTER study

Bellway has supported its employees, contractors and suppliers in a variety of fundraising efforts. Bellway staff got involved in a plethora of fundraising activities including charity walks, bake sales and mountain climbing.

Staff from Bellway were invited to visit the research labs at the Cancer Research UK Newcastle Cancer Centre to see the work being done by the charity.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone at Bellway for raising an incredible £3 million.

“We would not be able to continue our life-saving work without the support of our long-standing partners. Together, we can progress towards our vision of a world where people can live longer, better lives.”

Stephanie Parsons, Account Manager at Cancer Research UK

The Cancer Research UK Newcastle Cancer Centre is a collaboration between Cancer Research UK, Children’s Cancer North, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Newcastle University and The Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Eight employees from Bellway took part in the visit to the centre.

To be able to see such an innovative research facility was a privilege. We truly appreciate the opportunity and were amazed and inspired by what we saw.

Lorna Edwards, Deputy Company Secretary at Bellway
