The People’s Kitchen Newcastle, a charitable organization dedicated to serving meals to homeless and vulnerable individuals every single day of the year, is preparing for an upcoming and exhilarating fundraising event.

A team of compassionate volunteers, friends, and supporters will be participating in this year’s Great North Run, a half-marathon spanning 13.1 miles, to raise much-needed funds to meet the day-to-day costs of the charity.

The Peoples Kitchen Newcastle has been a beacon of hope in the community, offering warmth, sustenance, and friendship to those in need. Operating entirely with the help of volunteers and without any government funding, the charity has been making a significant impact in the lives of vulnerable people for more than 30 years.

Last year, a remarkable group of 30 individuals selflessly ran their socks off during the Great North Run, and their collective efforts led to an astounding £10,000 in sponsorships, which directly supported The People’s Kitchen. This year, they are hoping to surpass that incredible achievement. All the money they raise goes directly towards providing a better service to the Friends.

“Every contribution, no matter how small, is vital in helping us to continue our essential work. The funds raised during the Great North Run will play a pivotal role in sustaining our operations in the coming months, ensuringwe can continue providing warm meals, a welcoming environment, and companionship to our friends in need.”

Trustee Maggie Pavlou is one of the team running the GNR

In a heart-warming testament to the dedication of the volunteers, one of them will be running the race in donated clothing, carrying a rucksack with a sleeping bag, a tent, a food parcel and essential donated toiletries inside (all of which will be returned after the race). This gesture symbolises the genuine commitment of the volunteers to empathise with the challenges faced by the homeless and vulnerable individuals they help.

“We, like the event on Sunday are all in this for the long run. Donations will make a real difference to the lives of those less fortunate, ad can be made via our website ”
