Celebrating Tyneside's Talent: Ray Laidlaw, Carol Malia, and Ed Waugh Unite for a Cause
Ray Laidlaw, Carol Malia and Ed Waugh

A charitable event showcasing lively banter, featuring three prominent figures associated with Tyneside and the broader North East region, all supporting Monkhouse Primary School, with all proceeds directed towards its cause.

As well as finding international fame with Lindisfarne (he was a founding member), North Shields-lad Ray is also the producer of Geordie institutions Sunday for Sammy and Christmas in the Cathedral. He recently joined the creative team that won a Royal Television Society Award for the brilliant BBC 4 documentary, The Alan Hull Story.

A former Monkhouse Primary pupil, Carol Maria, has been on our TV screens reading the BBC local news on Look North since 1997, taking over when the late-great Mike Neville retired. Born in Tynemouth, the former Marden High pupil, was raised in Cullercoats. Carol is a Geordie institution with lots of funny stories to tell.

Ed is an internationally produced playwright, with 21 professionally produced plays to his name. Dirty Dusting (co-written with Trevor Wood) will be performed at Playhouse Whitley Bay in January and his latest self-penned play Wor Bella will transfer to London and Newcastle Theatre Royal in April. It will be Ed’s fifth play (three co-written with Trevor) at the region’s most prestigious theatre – a record for a local writer. He also writes comedy sketches for Sunday for Sammy and Christmas at the Cathedral. His new play about The Cramlington Train Wreckers will tour in November 2024 (including Playhouse Whitley Bay).
