As shopping centres and high streets reopen, one entertainment venue – The Gate, Newcastle – is tempting shoppers and thrill-seekers back to Newcastle’s city centre with a new immersive experience. Selfie Central is a North East first – the ultimate photo studio and one of the only selfie shops in the UK.
Inspired by Los Angeles immersive selfie museums, where visitors create picture-perfect selfies against stunning stage-sets, Selfie Central co-founders Danae Abadom and Kerry Fairlie saw an opportunity to pivot their award-winning events company to help entice people back onto the high street and into city centres.
With 11 clickable stage sets, from glitter ball fantasy to a cow kitchen, it’s the ultimate fun and interactive photo-ready studio experience for anyone who loves a selfie and some carefree fun with their family and friends.

Co-founder Danae Abadom said: “The past year has been so tough. Our main events business, Independent Events, create engaging experiences in shopping centres across the UK but when the pandemic hit everything changed.
“Despite the odds stacked against us, we were determined to turn this challenge into an opportunity. We used the stunning sets we had in storage to create Selfie Central. As the UK eases out of lockdown we want to help shopping centres and entertainment venues to create new experiences, by utilising vacant premises to tempt people back. We want to give people a fun, interactive and sociable experience they simply can’t get online.
“We’re one of the UK’s only selfie shops and we’ve had so much fun designing 11 clickable stage sets. We’re delighted to have already previewed the space to former Geordie Shore star Sophie Kasaei and influencer Grace Gonsalez has also been down to strike a pose.
“We can’t wait to welcome our first visitors to Selfie Central – whether they’re on a shopping trip or looking for something new and fun to do with their friends. Using Newcastle as a testbed, we hope to roll Selfie Central out in shopping centres across the UK in the months to come.”
Tickets are available now and allow groups of up to six people to fill their camera roll with fun Instagramable, TikTok-perfect snaps and videos.
Selfie Central is Covid secure and in line with Government, guidance has developed a protocol designed to keep you, your friends and family, and their team safe. Right now, the pop-up can welcome up to six people in any one group.
