Families are invited to grab a hamper and head to the park for a vibrant Pride Family Picnic this August.

Out North East has lined up a month-long programme of entertainment, education, exhibitions and fun, family-friendly events to mark Pride in Gateshead.

One of the standout events is the Pride Family Picnic, taking place on Sunday 24 August at Saltwell Park – a joyful celebration set to be a summer highlight.

From 12 noon to 4pm there will be a range of free activities for all ages, including stalls, crafts for children, inflatables and sports and organisers are encouraging families to bring their own picnics and rugs.

Peter Darrant, chair of Out North East, said:

“The Pride Family Picnic is one of the most popular Pride events, as there really is something for all ages to enjoy.

“Saltwell Park is a stunning setting and we’d encourage people to bring plenty to eat and drink and make a full day of it.”

The event is sponsored by Northern Gas and Power and People Director Scott High, said:

“At Northern Gas and Power, we take pride in supporting our local communities and championing equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do.

“The Pride Family Picnic is a wonderful celebration of togetherness, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds.

“We’re honoured to help create a day that reflects the vibrant, inclusive spirit of our region and brings families, friends, and neighbours together in joy.”

Pride in Gateshead – partnered with Gateshead Council and Gateshead College – has featured a variety of activities from a town centre takeover and Pride Lawn Bowling Tournament to a 5k Colour Run on 20 August.

It follows Pride in Sunderland, held in June and Pride in South Tyneside, which took place throughout July.
