Tonight Newcastle’s shoppers have the chance to enjoy an evening of Christmas fun at Newcastle’s oldest retail destination, Grainger Market.

As well as browsing stalls selling a range of Christmas goods, visitors can experience music, dancing, a bar, street food, tasters, art, and special classes and activities. Discounts will be available all evening.

A family event, Grainger Christmas Night Market will run from 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm. Entrance tickets are free though special tickets are also available for an extra ‘VIP’ experience.

Last year’s event saw over 6,000 visitors browsing the historic market’s illuminated aisles, with bands, entertainment and a light show all on offer.

Newcastle City Council’s cabinet member for culture and communities, Cllr Kim McGuinness, said, “I’m absolutely delighted that the Grainger Night Market will return this year on 1st December.”

“The Grainger Market is the city’s most iconic market and is a real Geordie institution which we are proud of.”

“During the Christmas shopping season, we want to encourage as many local people as possible to come here to shop small, shop local and support the market business.”

“When you visit the Grainger Market, you’re supporting the small businesses who are passionate about offering something bespoke and different, with a huge range of locally made products on offer.”

“So why not pop along for a fun and festive night, buy a present you can’t get anywhere else, eat delicious street food, meet Santa Claus and enjoy great live music and art?”

“There really is something for everyone and we guarantee new visitors to the market will be pleasantly surprised by what they see, taste, smell and experience.”

The Grainger Christmas Night Market is supported by Newcastle City Council and South Tyneside Radio. Though the market is free to attend, visitors will have the opportunity to make a donation to the West End Food Bank.

For an extra insight into the Victorian covered market, VIP tickets can be booked. The VIP tickets will include balcony views of the market, a visit to one of the air raid shelters underneath the market’s floor, a goodie bag and a free festive drink.

To book VIP tickets, please go to www.eventbrite.co.uk and search for Grainger Christmas Night Market.

All funds raised tonight will go towards putting on future events at Grainger Market.
