The dedicated young athlete has secured a prestigious spot in the U13 Girls’ Singles final in the Butterfly Schools Nationals Table Tennis Match, which is taking place on 26 April 2025.
The competition is organised by Table Tennis England, and sees table tennis stars of tomorrow compete to be crowned either individual or team champion.
Dorian, who competes on an individual basis, first took up table tennis in Hong Kong six years ago and continued her passion when she came to the UK. She plays regularly in a co-curricular table tennis club at her school, Dame Allan’s Schools in Fenham, where she often beats teachers leading the sessions! Outside of school, she trains three or four times a week at specialist clubs in Walker or Middlesbrough.
“Honestly, I started playing table tennis because in Hong Kong it is very hot, and I was looking for a sport that can be played inside with air conditioning!”
laughed Dorian.
“But I quickly grew to love the sport, particularly how fast-paced it is. I have made some great friends through table tennis.”
Table tennis is seeing a huge increase in popularity, alongside other newer sports like padel, with Table Tennis England reporting record increases in engagement post-pandemic.
“I am very excited to play in the finals in Wolverhampton.” said Dorian.
“It will be a big challenge but I am ready for it!”
As well as playing table tennis, Dorian spends her time playing the piano, playing football, and singing in the choir at Dame Allan’s.
Will Scott, Principal at Dame Allan’s Schools said:
“Dorian is a fantastic example of one of our pupils embracing their sporting passion, and we wish her the best of luck as she plays in the table tennis finals.”
