This September, WRITE Festival 2025 returns to The Word in South Shields with a bold mission: to spotlight northern talent, break down barriers to the publishing industry, and empower the next generation of writers, poets, and storytellers.

Taking place on Saturday, 14 September, the festival features a dynamic programme of events designed to inspire and inform. From bestselling authors to publishing insiders, WRITE Festival brings the literary world to the North East, making it more accessible, inclusive, and regionally rooted.

Highlights include:

  • Becoming a Novelist: A conversation with Lucy Rose (Sunday Times Bestselling author and Forbes 30 Under 30) and Jessie Elland (Emmerdale actress and debut novelist), offering practical advice on turning ideas into novels and navigating the publishing world.
  • The Poet’s Survival Guide: A panel with Meg Pattie, Rob Walton, and Ilisha Thiru Purcell, exploring how poets can sustain their creative practice, find publishing opportunities, and build supportive communities.
  • Publishing: A Glimpse Behind the Curtain: Industry insights from Haunt Publishing, Mslexia Magazine, and New Writing North, demystifying the publishing process and offering guidance for writers from underrepresented backgrounds.
