Tyne & Wear – When Rachel Warley first came across a photo of a tiny puppy abandoned near a beach in Bali, she was unable to turn away.

The puppy – now named Yuki – had been separated from his mother and left to fend for himself. Malnourished and severely deficient in calcium, his condition had become so serious that his bones had started to bend, leaving him unable to walk.

“He was just this helpless little thing,” Rachel said.

“His legs were literally bending because his body didn’t have what it needed to grow. I can’t imagine the pain he must have been in.”

After months of intensive veterinary treatment and rehabilitation from rescuers in Bali, Yuki has made a remarkable recovery. He can now walk, play and live without pain – and he is finally healthy enough to travel.

Rachel, from North Tyneside, is determined to bring him 7,000 miles to his forever home in Newcastle.

She has already personally funded Yuki’s vaccinations and essential blood tests to ensure he meets UK import requirements. However, the remaining costs – including transport, travel documentation and relocation fees – mean she must now significantly increase her fundraising efforts to make his journey possible.

Rachel launched a fundraising campaign with a £2,500 target. So far, 61 donors have helped raise £1,360 – just over halfway there.

“I’ve covered his vaccinations and blood tests because I couldn’t let anything delay his progress,” Rachel said.

“But getting him here safely is the biggest cost. I just need that final push of support to make it happen.”

For Rachel, this is about more than one dog – it’s about giving a second chance.

“After everything he’s survived, he deserves the safest, happiest life possible. Bringing him here not only changes his life, it also frees up space in the rescue for another abandoned puppy to be saved.”

She has created an Instagram page –  @getyukihome_uk  – where supporters can follow Yuki’s recovery and journey home. The page is steadily building a community of people invested in seeing him arrive safely in the North East.

If the fundraiser reaches its target and Yuki lands on Tyneside, Rachel hopes to organise a community dog walk in Whitley Bay to thank those who helped bring him home.

“I would love the people who donated or even just shared his story to meet him in person,” she said.

“They’re part of his story now.”

With just over £1,000 left to raise, Rachel is hoping the North East community will rally behind a puppy who has already overcome extraordinary odds – and is now just one journey away from his forever home.
