Local businesses including Vertu Motors Honda, join forces to help provide 2,000 vaccines in six hours.

On January 21st 2021, over 2,000 residents received vaccinations against COVID-19 within just six hours at the Eagles Community Arena, thanks to the collective effort of local businesses in the Newcastle area. Beating the current city record and doubling the number of vaccinations in two hours less than the previous one, the collective effort was achieved by staff and volunteers of Newcastle GP services, Newcastle City Council, the Eagles Community Arena and other Collaborative Newcastle partners.

Supported by a local dealer, Vertu Honda Newcastle, the team was able to smash their current record due to their loan of a van, to help transport additional furniture into the arena and allow additional vaccinations to be delivered in a shorter space of time. This continues a long partnership between Vertu Honda and the Newcastle Eagles, whom the local business has sponsored for six seasons now. Vertu also helped with the purchasing of equipment and shirts for the children’s community club, Cardinal Hornets, and continues to support the club in 2021.

Robert Forrester, CEO of Vertu Motors, said: “During these challenging times, it’s important for us to do anything we can to help and support our local community – especially if it means more people are vaccinated sooner. We wanted to once again say a huge thank you to all of the amazing volunteers at the Arena – and everyone else helping out in this huge national effort to roll out the COVID vaccine.”

For anyone looking to volunteer at a vaccination centre, in clinical and admin roles, or anything else, you can find all the details on the Newcastle GP Services website – https://newcastle-gp-services.co.uk/covid19/
