Housebuilder Lovell has funded, planned and designed the refurbishment of a kitchen in a North East charity’s safe haven for young people facing homelessness.

The North East region of Lovell, which is based in Houghton le Spring, provided £6788 and project-managed the renovation of the kitchen at the Oasis Community Housing’s accommodation project, which helps vulnerable young people, many of who have experienced abusive childhoods, domestic violence, and other traumas.

Lovell has been a sponsor partner of Oasis Community Housing – a charity which works to try to prevent homelessness and helps people who are homeless – since March 2023.

The charity’s property consists of eight bedrooms, a front room, a dining room and a communal kitchen. The Lovell construction team led the kitchen refurbishment project and called in Symphony Kitchens to help out.

“Mark and the team have been fantastic in guiding us through the planning and design process for the refurbishment of our kitchen.

“The kitchen is at the heart of our project, witnessing countless shared meals, support sessions and memories. However, it has grown worn and weary from its constant use by the many young people who have lived at the project.

“Lovell’s expertise not only breathes new life into this essential space but also instils a sense of pride and dignity within our walls. His support is a testament to the power of community and compassion in creating a nurturing environment where our residents can thrive. We love the new design, and the upgraded kitchen will help to provide stability and hope for those we serve in years to come.”

Rosalynd McNally, Head of Supported Housing at Oasis Community Housing

Oasis Community Housing’s project is staffed 24/7 by a dedicated team of support workers and offers the young people who live there the safety and support needed to heal and move towards an independent future.

“There are the usual corporate-charity partnerships, raising funds by playing golf and climbing mountains – all of which we love to do. But our partnership with Oasis Community Housing goes deeper than that.

“We jumped at the chance to get involved with this much-needed kitchen makeover at this project for young people. We’re delighted to be funding the refurbishment, while also getting to utilise our skills and knowledge as project managers and housebuilders to help make a real difference for the individuals the charity supports.

“We can’t wait to see the residents enjoying their new space. Providing a safe and supportive environment for young people is crucial, and we believe that by improving these facilities, we can help make a positive impact on their lives.”
