Local online community radio station Radio Gateshead is celebrating its first birthday.
Radio Gateshead, which broadcasts LIVE 24 hours a day online, provides a local service of news, community information and great music.
The station launched on 5th June 2021 and has been incredibly popular, helping thousands of local residents during Storm Eunice and Storm Arwen with the latest weather and travel information – on air and via its website.
Alongside providing information for the community, Radio Gateshead is proud that it caters for local people, by local people. Everyone involved in the radio station is a volunteer and they all have one thing in common – a passion for local community radio.
Radio Gateshead said: “We are incredibly proud to be celebrating our first birthday. We launched just after the pandemic as we realised that there was not a radio station that catered to just Gateshead.
“We have had great support from local businesses and welcome them to sponsor our website to help with running costs.”
“Our presenters, article writers and those behind the scenes work extremely hard to put together a service which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We only hope we can grow from here and we are always looking for volunteers to help us with all aspects of the station”.
