Newcastle’s music scene is about to get a fresh new voice. Kainos, a contemporary classical ensemble, is launching this May with a mission to bring vibrant, modern music to the city.
Supported by the historic Lit & Phil and the Vaughan Williams Foundation, Kainos is here to challenge perceptions of classical music and champion both local talent and internationally acclaimed composers.
Their debut concert takes place at The Lit & Phil on Thursday, 8th May, featuring an exciting programme of contemporary works. Highlights include pieces by Newcastle-born Anna Appleby, the newly appointed Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen, and North East composer John Casken, alongside playful and unexpected works like Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade’s Three études for piano and flower pots.
Curious about how it all comes together? Drop into their free open rehearsal at the Lit & Phil (23 Westgate Road, NE1 1SE) on the afternoon of the 8th for a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.
