A Landmark North East pub – which can trace its roots back to the 1700s – has been given a new lease of life.

The Delaval Arms at Old Hartley, near Whitley Bay, has been taken over by the Bartlett family and they have transformed it to give it a stylish, quirky and unique new look, while still paying homage to the venue’s long history and tradition.

The pub, which is also home to the King Aelle Brew Co brewery – has gone through a sympathetic cosmetic transformation which includes the creation of an outdoor terrace, function rooms and an exciting new food operation.

The new look is down to Operations Director, Simon Bartlett, who has worked extensively in the design and creation of top hospitality outlets around the country.

“It has been amazing after years of working on designs for other operators to be able to do it for ourselves,” said Simon.

“The response we’ve had so far from everyone has been incredibly positive and we are looking forward to being able to show even more visitors what we’ve done.”

The owners have also gathered a strong team, including executive chef, David Blackhall, who has worked at venues such as Bar Luga and Bealim House and has created an exciting new menu.

At the same time, a number of function rooms have been created which are perfect for small weddings, family celebrations and meetings.

The aim now is to attract local people but also to become a destination for travellers and for visitors from across the UK who appreciate the coastal setting and enjoy good food and drink.

“We are in such a fantastic spot; so close to the sea, on the coast and castle’s route, and near to St Mary’s Lighthouse and popular surfing spots,” said Simon.
