Hadrian’s Wall Trek Aims to Raise £100,000 for Addenbrooke’s in Tribute to Elliott
Ross Eley and Jon Ward - Fundraising for Elliott

A Cambridge man is set to walk the full length of Hadrian’s Wall in memory of his stepson, who sadly passed away from a genetic disease last year, while raising funds for the hospital that cared for him.

From 11 to 14 September, Ross Eley, together with friend Jon Ward, will take on the 84-mile challenge to support Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where Ross’ stepson Elliott received treatment during his illness.

Ross who is a roofer at Places for People will be supported by his colleague Jon on the fundraising challenge which hopes to raise £100,000 for Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Addenbrooke’s Hospital cared for Elliott during his illness. Elliott suffered from a TTC7A deficiency a severe rare genetic disease which causes inflammation of the intestines, bowel obstructions, immune dysfunction, and an inability to absorb nutrients. After a tough battle with the illness, Elliott sadly passed away in September 2024.

This is the second fundraising event that Ross has completed, in October 2024 only a few weeks after Elliott’s passing, joined by friends and family Ross completed a 62 mile walk from Cambourne to London Stadium, the home of West Ham United – Elliott’s favourite football club. The event raised over £31,000.

Speaking about the upcoming event Ross comments:

“Walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall will be my biggest challenge yet and one that I am ready to tackle. It is an absolute privilege to be walking alongside my colleague Jon who has been a great support to me and my family during Elliott’s illness and heartbreaking passing last year. The money we have raised so far means an incredible amount to us all and we hope to be able to raise £100,000 for Addenbrooke’s Hospital who went above and beyond when caring for Elliott. Thank you to all of those who have supported and shared Elliott’s story so far.”
