Bellway’s North East division has raised £102,745 at a charity ball in aid of Cancer Research UK and Variety, the Children’s Charity.

The event, attended by 384 guests, was held at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead on Saturday 19 September and hosted by comedian and compere Steve Walls.

The evening’s entertainment included a charity auction with sporting and film memorabilia, and a digital phone quiz, as well as magic tricks, and performances from BeatBox Trio and Groove Allstars.

Emma Chesterton, Sales Director for Bellway North East, said:

“This year’s charity ball was another fantastic night of fun, laughter and generosity which raised an incredible £102,745 – including a £10,000 donation from Bellway – for two very special charities.

“Both Cancer Research UK and Variety are Bellway’s national charity partners and each do invaluable work which we are so proud to support.

“I’d like to thank all staff, supporters and contractors who attended the event and helped make it a night to remember.”

Bellway has raised more than £5.1 million nationally for Cancer Research UK over the past 10 years.

Earlier this year the company also launched a charity partnership with Variety to help disabled and disadvantaged children access opportunities and experiences they might otherwise miss out on.

The housebuilder has pledged to raise funds for six specially adapted Variety minibuses, known as Sunshine Coaches, in regions where Bellway operates. The first Sunshine Coach was presented to a school in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, earlier in the year.

Bellway North East, which has its divisional head office in Gateshead, is currently building new homes across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham.
