One of the North East’s leading hospitality businesses is backing a major event next month (May) to support children and young people with cancer across the region.
The 43rd Children’s Cancer Run will take place on Sunday 17 May at Newcastle Racecourse in Gosforth, featuring one-kilometre, three-mile and five-mile fun runs suitable for all ages and abilities.
It is expected to attract more than 10,000 runners and spectators and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Children’s Cancer North; an independent charity which supports individuals and families affected by childhood cancer.
And Malhotra Group plc – which chose Children’s Cancer North as its nominated charity for 2026 – is lined up to help.
Staff across its portfolio of hotels, bars and restaurants and from its head office will be volunteering at the event.
A Three Mile pop-up bar at the Racecourse will also be selling mini mocktail versions of a charity cocktail, Sweet Tooth, created by bartender Jake Oldham with all funds going to Children’s Cancer North.
They are also offering a special reward in the form of a free dessert for little runners who decide to head to Pizza Dough Co after the race for something to eat.
More than 100 children and young people in this region are diagnosed with cancer each year and the charity also invests in pioneering research and works to raise awareness of children’s cancer.
And Malhotra Group plc is supporting the charity this year in several ways, with an additional £1 donation to charity on customers’ bills and a nominated charity dish at each leisure venue.

Group staff will also be entering a six-strong team in the Great North Run later this year and operations director Atul Malhotra said “it is a privilege to be able to support this charity.
“Cancer can strike at any time,” he said, “and, if and when it does, Children’s Cancer North is there to help.
“But, in the midst of the seriousness, the Children’s Cancer Run is a fantastic, laughter-filled event and we hope as many people as possible will sign up to take part.”
Tiago Santos, Corporate Partnerships Officer, at Children’s Cancer North, said:
“The Children’s Cancer Run is quite simply the biggest event in our charity’s calendar every single year.
“It takes an army of volunteers to put it together and we are extremely proud of how well received it is by people in our region.
“The team at Malhotra Group plc have shown real enthusiasm in not only supporting our charity but also helping to make this year’s event an even more memorable one.
“Having tried the charity mocktail myself, I can say with confidence that it will be a welcome refreshment for all our runners – big or small.”
