The North East’s leading independent cinema, Tyneside Cinema, is launching an exciting new partnership with MOBO Fringe, bringing a dynamic creative workshop process in schools and youth groups across Newcastle and Gateshead.

For the first time in its history, the prestigious MOBO Awards will be held in Newcastle, making this joint venture even more significant.

Over five weeks, the workshops will inspire young people to create music videos celebrating the MOBO Awards’ landmark presence in the North East. Participants will also document the creative process, with both projects premiering at Tyneside Cinema’s Beyond the Screen event on Saturday 15th February 2025.

The workshops will bring together an impressive team of local filmmakers, producers, editors, illustrators, choreographers and designers, ensuring all investment remains in the region.

“As we step into 2025, we remain committed to empowering young talent across the region. Partnering with MOBO Fringe to create Beyond the Screen provides invaluable opportunities for the next generation of creatives, showcasing the North East’s incredible potential and driving the future of content creation.”

Nic Greenan, CEO at Tyneside Cinema

This initiative, supported by organisations such as GLOW Newcastle, Northern Roots and local businesses including Traveller & The Bear and Focus Canning, showcases the North East’s thriving creative scene while providing invaluable opportunities for the next generation of creatives.

“We are incredibly proud to be able to work with local businesses in developing and inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.”

Craig Haugh, Focus Canning Technical Manager

Funding support for this initiative has been generously provided by Newcastle City Council, Gateshead City Council, the North East Combined Authority and the Sir James Knott Trust.
