15 December 2021: Barratt Developments North East is continuing to support young peoples’ careers as four new apprentices join the housebuilder’s Apprenticeship Scheme.
Designed to help young adults kick start their career, Barratt Developments’ Apprenticeship Scheme is welcoming four students across its construction, bricklaying, and joinery departments.
By joining the scheme, the apprentices will gain access to essential experience in the housebuilding industry whilst also obtaining the qualifications necessary to be successful in their careers.
Nathan Andreason, 19, will be joining Barratt Developments as an apprentice bricklayer at the housebuilder’s Sunderland site, Cherry Tree Park, while attending York College. Having previously studied BTEC Sport and Geography at St Roberts Sixth Form, 19-year-old Nathan will be working on numerous sites across the North East covering all aspects of brickwork.
Another bricklayer apprentice joining the scheme is 16-year-old Thomas Peacock, who will also be attending York College. Having joined from Whitworth Park Academy, he will be seeing developments through from start to finish.
Joining the scheme as a joinery apprentice, Harry Lester, 16, was awarded with his GCSEs in 2021. As an apprentice joiner, Harry will be working across several house builds covering all aspects of joinery, including first and second fix joinery, joists, and flooring.
Also beginning his career as an apprentice joiner is Liam Hobkirk, 17, who previously studied at Kingsmeadow Community School and will be working on a variety of houses to develop his skills.
Scott Lester, Construction Director of Barratt Homes North East, said: “Our Apprenticeship Scheme has been helping young people develop their careers in construction and we’re so excited to welcome four new apprentices to the scheme. As one of the country’s leading housebuilders, we’re always keen to support local people and the wider construction industry, and our Apprenticeship Scheme is just one way we’re able to do this.
“We’re extremely proud of the opportunities we’re able to offer as part of the scheme and are looking forward to seeing the careers of our four new apprentices take off. The Apprenticeship Scheme is a great way to kick start your career, and we would encourage anyone interested in working in the construction industry to consider the opportunities available with Barratt Developments North East.”
