Veterans for Veterans in Care Christmas event
Veterans for Veterans in Care is founded on 3 pillars. To Locate, Engage and Integrate our “Forgotten Army” of 26,000 “Armed Forces Veterans” in care homes back into the veteran community, and to help reduce veteran isolation.
This event hosted by The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Jay Potts epitomises the outcomes of those three pillars.
We were honoured to have His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear Brigadier Bibek Banerjee with us who presented Oaths of Allegiances and Veteran Badges to the “Armed Forces Veterans” from our local care homes, who were accompanied by their families and carers.
This event also brought together community and generations with representatives from the local cadet forces and South Shields St Oswalds primary school choir.
Our “Armed Forces Veterans” in attendance were and we “repeat” were, part of that “Forgotten Army” but are now surrounded by family, carers, volunteers, community and generations, and we would like to say to them on behalf of their Military Brothers and Sister’s welcome back to your military family.
Big shout out to East Durham Veterans Trust for allowing us to use there wheelchair accessible minibus, this gave VFVIC the opportunity to bring our veterans to the event.
